I'm thinking of replacing it. Under what legal circumstances is this possible? and which one is good?
I've got a 1989 honda dx hatchback w/200,000 miles and I owned it for 5 years.

i dunno...you live in cali..everything is illegal there..lol(glad i live in texas 
) anyway...ummm...i believe Catco is bolt in cat replacement....and better flow too. i'm sure that since you have 200K on your car, you can constitute replacing it...you shouldn't get any hassle at all since you've got such mileage. we actually have pretty strict laws here too about Cats...but i bought one from Vince, bolted it on with my new exhaust, and then just went and got my car inspected cuz it was due anyway...i didn't get any hassle at all.

The official line is you're not supposed to mess with the cat unless it's got a problem. The problem with the rule is unless you're carrying around a good cat with you that you just took off the car who's to say it wasn't broken?
